It is based in Chicago, Illinois, and was founded in 1986. It has also released live VHS recordings by bands such as Live Skull and The Flaming Lips.

Aurora Borealis is a London based record label unhindered by genre.Ê The releases thus far have spanned US hardcore, conceptual drone, post-rock and horror electronics, from established acts like JESU, INTEGRITY and KTL through to less well known heroes like MARZURAAN and WRAITHS.Ê The label likes to feel that they are all linked by some common aesthetic, though its hard to put a finger on it.Ê Aiming to be Eurocentric, Aurora Borealis is considering requesting the annexation of the US states of Wisconsin and Oregon due to the amount of scheduled releases for 2008 that don't fit the intended goal.Ê This said, recent releases have focussed on Scotland and the North East of England. Packaging continues to be an obsession, though never without justification.

"Fonal Records is an independent record label from Finland. It was initially founded in the mid-1990s by Sami Sänpäkkilä to release his recordings under his recording name Es.
Sänpäkkilä runs the label from his home in Ulvila. A truly independent record label in every sense, his entire family even get involved, packaging records among other duties.
Despite this low key, DIY approach, or rather because of it, Fonal balances the artistic and creative elements of running a record label with the less glamorous problems associated with any other 'normal' business venture.
Fonal is well known world wide for championing the Finnish music scene.
A large number of Fonal releases were recorded, mixed and mastered at their own SS-Palace Studio. The studio reflects the same principles as the record label, with a creative atmosphere, allowing anything from demos to full length albums to be recorded. The studio boasts Digital 16-track simultaneous recording, or 8-track 1/4 inch reel-to-reel tape recording; also, importantly, lo-fi engineering, if required."
